Channels it watches
The agent only reads and posts in the channels you put on its allowlist. Everywhere else it is silent, and it doesn’t store those messages. This is the single most important control you have over the agent, so it’s worth understanding.
The allowlist
An allowlist is the opposite of a blocklist: nothing is on until you add it. When the agent joins your server it watches no channels at all. You add channels one at a time in the dashboard, and each one gets its own answer modes.
This means the agent can only ever be in channels you added on purpose. If a channel isn’t on the list, it can’t see it. Reading the messages in the channels you do add relies on message-content access, a Discord setting we enable for the agent during onboarding.
Why silence matters
Two reasons to keep the allowlist tight.
- Privacy. The agent only processes messages in channels you’ve chosen. A private staff channel or a paid-supporter channel stays private because you never add it.
- Signal. Analytics stay clean when the agent only listens where players actually ask questions. Noise from a memes channel would muddy your top-questions view.
Threads
When a channel is on the allowlist, threads created under it are covered too. A player can start a thread to ask a follow-up and the agent stays with them.
Categories
You add channels, not categories. Adding a whole category at once isn’t supported yet, on purpose: it’s easy to sweep in a private channel that happens to sit in the same category. Add the specific channels where you want the agent, and leave the rest.
Removing a channel
Take a channel off the allowlist any time and the agent stops reading it immediately. Past analytics from that channel stay in your dashboard unless you clear them. See what we collect for how long messages are kept.
