Pausing & muting

Sometimes you want the agent to stop talking: during a live event, while a patch settles, or if something’s off. You can quiet it for a single channel or the whole server, and bring it back the same way. Pausing never deletes anything; it just stops the agent from speaking.

From Discord

Moderators can pause the agent without opening the dashboard.

  • /campfire pause quiets the agent in the current channel.
  • /campfire pause server quiets it everywhere.
  • /campfire resume brings it back in the current channel.
  • /campfire resume server brings it back everywhere.

These need a moderator or admin role. A paused agent still reads the channel for analytics unless you also remove the channel from the allowlist; it simply doesn’t reply.

From the dashboard

The dashboard has the same controls with a wider view. You can see at a glance which channels are paused and resume them in one place. Use this when you’ve paused several channels and want to bring them all back together.

When to pause

  • A live event. Keep chat human during a launch stream or an AMA, then resume.
  • Right after a big patch. If you’d rather the agent stay quiet than risk a stale number, pause it until the data refresh lands.
  • Something looks wrong. If the agent is misbehaving, pause first, then tell us. Pausing buys time without losing any data.

Pausing is the safe button. It’s fully reversible and costs you nothing, so reach for it whenever you’re unsure.

Muting a topic

Pausing is about channels, not subjects. If you want the agent to avoid a particular topic rather than go silent in a channel, that’s a job for guardrails or a spoiler rule, not a pause.
