The agent isn’t responding
The agent has gone quiet. Almost always it’s one of a handful of causes. Work down this list in order and you’ll usually find it in the first few checks.
Is it paused?
The most common cause. Someone may have paused the agent for the channel or the whole server, during an event or a patch, and not resumed it.
Run /campfire status in the channel, or check the dashboard. If it’s paused, /campfire resume brings it back.
Is the channel on the allowlist?
The agent only speaks in channels you’ve added. If it never answered in this channel, it may simply not be on the allowlist, or the channel’s answer modes may not include the way players are trying to reach it.
- Confirm the channel is added in the dashboard.
- Check which modes are on. If only mention is on,
/askand unprompted questions won’t get a reply.
Are players asking in a way that’s on?
If the channel is set to mention only, an unprompted question won’t trigger anything. Ask the agent directly with a mention, or turn on the mode you expect players to use.
Does it have Discord permissions?
If the agent can see the channel but can’t post, it usually lacks a permission. It needs to view the channel, read messages, and send messages, plus embed links and add reactions for full behavior. If it can see messages arrive but never replies, it may be missing message-content access. See setup and permission errors for the exact list and how to fix it.
Is it an incident?
If the agent is offline everywhere and nothing above explains it, check whether the problem is on our side at status.atcampfire.xyz. If there’s an open incident, it’s ours to fix, and the page will say so.
Still stuck?
If you’ve worked through all of the above and the agent is still silent, tell us on your shared Slack channel or at support@atcampfire.xyz. Say which channel, what players are typing, and what you’ve already checked, and we’ll dig in.
