Abilities and Skill Reference
Every creature has abilities (skills) that define how it plays in battle. Abilities fall into distinct categories: damage, support, control, and hybrid. Understanding ability types helps you build synergistic teams.
Ability Types
Damage Abilities
Role: Deal damage to enemies.
Execution: Single target, area-of-effect (AoE), or multi-hit patterns.
Used by: Attackers primarily; balanced creatures secondarily.
Example: Physical strike, elemental blast, combo attack.
Support Abilities
Role: Buff allies or heal.
Buffs Applied:
ATK increase
DEF increase
SPD increase
Restore HP
Used by: Healers, balanced creatures, support specialists.
Example: Healing spell, party ATK buff, shield.
Control Abilities
Role: Reduce enemy threat or control their actions.
Debuffs Applied:
Poison (DoT)
Paralysis (slow)
Sleep (stun)
ATK reduction
DEF reduction
Used by: Control-focused creatures, some balanced attackers.
Example: Stun attack, poison strike, speed debuff.
Hybrid Abilities
Role: Combine damage + buff/debuff in one action.
Examples:
- Damage + apply poison
- Damage + reduce enemy DEF
- Heal + apply ATK buff
Used by: Balanced creatures, versatile team players.
Buff Math Basics
Before diving into synergies, it’s important to understand how buffs stack in Palmon: Survival.
Additive Stacking: Multiple buffs of the same type stack additively, not multiplicatively. This means their percentages add together rather than compound.
Example: A creature with 100 ATK receives two +20% ATK buffs:
- Calculation: 100 × (1 + 0.20 + 0.20) = 100 × 1.40 = 140 ATK
- NOT: 100 × 1.20 × 1.20 = 144 ATK (this would be multiplicative stacking)
Key points:
- +20% ATK + +20% ATK = +40% total (not +44%)
- +15% DEF + +10% DEF = +25% total (not +26.5%)
- This applies to all buff types: ATK, DEF, SPD, and similar modifiers
Ability Synergies for Team Building
Synergy 1: ATK Multiplier (Burst Combo)
Setup: One attacker + one ATK-buffer
How it works:
- Support applies ATK boost on attacker
- Attacker deals 2-3× normal damage that turn
- Stack multiple ATK buffs for additive damage scaling
ATK Buff Stacking (Additive Math): Multiple ATK buffs stack additively. Each +20% ATK buff adds 20 percentage points, not compound.
Worked Example:
- Base creature ATK: 100
- First +20% ATK buff applied: 100 × 1.20 = 120 ATK
- Second +20% ATK buff applied: 100 × (1.20 + 0.20) = 100 × 1.40 = 140 ATK
- Third +20% ATK buff applied: 100 × (1.20 + 0.20 + 0.20) = 100 × 1.60 = 160 ATK
Note: Stacking buffs is efficient but does not create exponential returns—buffs scale linearly.
Best for: Burst damage, fast wins
Risk: If attacker is killed before buffed, combo fails
Creatures with this synergy:
Synergy 2: Tank Multiplication (Def Stacking)
Setup: One tank + multiple DEF-buffers
How it works:
- Multiple creatures apply DEF boosts to tank
- Tank becomes nearly unkillable
- Support creatures behind tank slowly win battles
DEF Buff Stacking (Additive Math): Multiple DEF buffs stack additively, identical to ATK buffs.
Worked Example:
- Base tank DEF: 80
- First +15% DEF buff: 80 × 1.15 = 92 DEF
- Second +15% DEF buff: 80 × (1.15 + 0.15) = 80 × 1.30 = 104 DEF
- Three buffers each applying +15% DEF: 80 × (1.15 + 0.15 + 0.15) = 80 × 1.45 = 116 DEF
Impact: With three DEF buffers, your tank gains 45% additional defense. Enemy damage is reduced proportionally.
Best for: Long battles, defensive strategy
Risk: Very slow progression
Creatures with this synergy:
- Tanks: Ghillant, Dolphriend, Terrastudo, Adolphonis
- DEF Buffers: Statchew, Snowkami
Synergy 3: Control Cascade (Crowd Control Chain)
Setup: Multiple control creatures with different debuffs
How it works:
- First creature applies paralysis to disable enemy
- Enemy can’t act on their turn
- Second creature applies poison for extra damage
- Third creature applies ATK reduction to further cripple threats
Control Effect Stacking: Control effects (paralysis, sleep, poison, ATK reduction) stack independently. Each effect applies separately without diminishing returns.
Worked Example:
- Enemy receives paralysis → 30% chance to skip next turn
- Enemy receives sleep → sleep effect resolves independently
- Enemy receives poison → poison DoT damage applies each turn
- Enemy receives ATK reduction → damage output reduced by flat amount
Multiple control effects compound the difficulty for enemies, even though they are mechanically independent.
Best for: Preventing enemy actions
Risk: If enemy resists one control effect, others may not land either
Creatures with this synergy:
- Control specialists: Abuzzinian, Barkplug, Incineraptor
- Debuff applicators: Hoofrit, Mantleray
Synergy 4: Healing Loop (Sustain)
Setup: One strong healer + one ATK creature
How it works:
- Healer restores HP each turn
- Attacker deals damage
- Team never dies, enemy eventually falls to chip damage
Healing + ATK Buff Stacking: If your healer also applies ATK buffs, those buffs stack additively on top of the healer’s base healing output.
Worked Example:
- Healer restores 50 HP per turn (base)
- Healer has +20% healing buff: 50 × 1.20 = 60 HP per turn
- Attacker deals 15 damage per turn
- After 10 turns: healer has restored 600 HP, attacker dealt 150 damage
- Team sustains indefinitely if healing ≥ enemy damage rate
Best for: Boss fights, grinding
Risk: Extremely slow but very reliable
Creatures with this synergy:
Synergy 5: Speed Advantage (Turn Economy)
Setup: Multiple speed-boosted creatures
How it works:
- Speed boosts let your team act twice before enemies act once
- Attack 4 times vs enemy’s 2 times = win before they scale up
Speed Buff Stacking: Speed buffs stack additively, like ATK and DEF buffs.
Worked Example:
- Base team SPD: 100 each creature
- Each creature receives +20% SPD buff: 100 × 1.20 = 120 SPD
- Enemy base SPD: 100
- Your team acts 20% faster; with multiple creatures, you gain multiple turns before enemies respond
Three speed-boosted creatures at 120 SPD vs. three enemies at 100 SPD means your team takes approximately 3 turns for every 2.5 enemy turns—a decisive turn advantage.
Best for: Early-mid game, balanced teams
Risk: Doesn’t help if creatures are too fragile to survive

Electric abilities vs Earth creatures: Reduced effectiveness (element disadvantage)
- Deal 75-85% of normal damage
- Grounded earth absorbs electrical damage
- Example: Electric moves are weak against Earth-type tanks
Paralysis Utility: Electric abilities apply paralysis more frequently
- Reduces enemy SPD significantly
- Can skip enemy turns entirely
- Turns are often won through control, not damage
Building Teams with Element Coverage
When constructing your team, follow these principles:
Avoid Stacking One Element
- All-Fire team = weak to Water
- All-Electric team = weak to Earth
- Balanced coverage = survivability
Create Offensive Coverage
- Include Fire (burns DoT), Water (heals/cleanses), and Earth (defense)
- Consider Electric for control and specific matchups
- Mixed-element creatures fill gaps
Match Elements to Your Strategy
- Attacking team: Lead with element advantage
- Defensive team: Bring Earth-type tanks
- Control team: Prioritize Electric for paralysis
- Healing team: Water-types excel at sustain
Counter Enemy Compositions
- Scouting Fire-heavy teams? Bring Water-types
- Facing Water-heavy teams? Bring Electric or Earth
- Seeing Earth-types? Bring Water or Fire
Element Synergy + Ability Synergy
The strongest teams combine both element synergies AND ability synergies. For example:
Optimal Burst Team:
- Fire-type Attacker (Blazeal) + Fire-type Support (Statchew) + Earth-type Tank (Terrastudo)
- Ability synergy: ATK buff + damage multiplier
- Element coverage: Fire offense + Earth defense + mixed utility
- Counter strategy: Bring Water-types to counter Fire attacks
Optimal Control Team:
- Electric-type Control (Abuzzinian) + Water-type Support (Dolphriend) + Earth-type Tank (Terrastudo)
- Ability synergy: Paralysis chain + healing loop
- Element coverage: Electric control + Water utility + Earth defense
- Advantage: Stops enemy action economy while maintaining sustain
Ability Priority in Team Building
Tier 1: Essential (Must Have)
- Cleanse/Remove Status: At least one creature that removes negative effects
- Healing: At least one creature that restores HP
- Damage: At least two creatures that deal significant damage
Tier 2: Highly Valuable (Should Have)
- ATK boosting (multiplies damage output)
- DEF boosting (keeps team alive longer)
- Control abilities (reduce enemy threat)
Tier 3: Nice to Have (Situational)
- Speed buffs (turn economy advantage)
- Multi-target damage (clears multiple enemies fast)
- Passive bonuses (always-active abilities)
Common Ability Mistakes
Mistake 1: Building a team of all damage dealers
→ No healing = team dies to tankier enemies
Fix: Add one healer and one tank
Mistake 2: Stacking the same buff type
→ Three ATK boosters on the same creature wastes action economy
Fix: One creature applies one buff; move to the next action
Mistake 3: Ignoring control abilities
→ Enemy team with paralysis + sleep controls your entire team
Fix: Add at least one creature that cleanses status effects
Mistake 4: Prioritizing rare creatures over ability synergy
→ One rare creature alone can’t carry a team
Fix: Build around ability interactions; rarity is secondary
