Squad Formation & Team Building

Palmon: Survival’s core loop is building squads of creatures that work together. This guide covers squad composition, formations, and tactical strategies to maximize your team’s effectiveness.

Squad Roles & Archetypes

Every creature fills one of these roles in your squad:

Attackers (Damage Dealers) High offensive power, low durability. Deploy them to finish threats fast. Examples: Graffitty, Blazeal, Terrastudo. Best in the midline where they can deal damage without absorbing hits.

Defenders (Tanks) High durability, lower offense. Soak up damage and protect your backline. Examples: Terrastudo, Mantleray. Frontline placement keeps them between enemies and your support creatures.

Support Heal, buff, or control enemies. Essentials for endgame content. Examples: Squeezel (healer), Flower-themed creatures. Backline position maximizes their usefulness without exposing them to combat.

Balanced Creatures Mix offense and defense. Versatile for early-game teams. Examples: Platyputz, Ninjump. Play them in the midline to deal damage while staying alive.

Hybrid Workers Creatures that excel in both combat and resource gathering. Use them on your farm while keeping a separate combat squad ready.

Team Composition Types

Aggro (Fast) Teams All attackers, minimal defense. Win battles quickly before taking heavy damage. Works in early game; risky for high-difficulty content. Example: Three A-tier damage dealers + one tank.

Control (Defensive) Teams Heavy on defense, support, and crowd control. Win by outlasting enemies. Works for challenging dungeons; slower progression. Example: Tank + 2 support + Attacker with debuffs.

Balanced (Adaptive) Teams Mix all roles evenly. Most consistent for varied content. Best for players still learning matchups. Example: 1 tank, 2 attackers, 2 support, 1 utility.

Element Synergy

A strong squad covers all four elements:

  • Water beats Fire
  • Fire beats Earth
  • Earth beats Electric
  • Electric beats Water

The cycle means no element is inherently strongest—team composition matters more. Build squads with at least one creature of each element type, or focus on two elements + one hybrid if you can’t catch all four yet.

Formation Positioning

Position matters in battle:

Frontline (Left) Your tank or most durable creature. Takes first hits from enemies.

Midline (Center) Your attackers and balanced creatures. Safe enough to survive; close enough to deal damage.

Backline (Right) Support and healer creatures. Protected from most direct attacks, can support the whole team.

Rotate creatures between battles to match enemy compositions. Adjust your frontline to counter the enemy’s damage type; adjust backline based on your expected health loss.

F2P Progression Paths

Early Game (Levels 1–10) Catch Water, Fire, Earth, Electric types (any rarity). Don’t worry about tiers yet; element balance matters more. Assign job duties to creatures you catch (most combinations work). Aim for a balanced 6-creature roster: 1 tank, 2 attackers, 1 support, 2 mixed roles.

Mid Game (Levels 10–25) Start your first evolutions (Platyputz, Ninjump, Meowdame). Evolve creatures that will stay on your team for 20+ levels. Capture targeted A-tier and S-tier creatures using the element synergy table. Mix evolved creatures with new high-tier captures. Dedicated teams for specific dungeons (water-heavy vs. fire-heavy) start here.

Pre-Evolution (Levels 25–35) Evolve your core damage dealers (Ninjump → Bufonobi, Blazeal). Keep your best tank and support creatures from early game; they carry through endgame. Start specialized squads: mono-element team, balanced team, utility team. Job assignments now matter—dedicate workers to optimize passive income while keeping combat squad separate.

Endgame (Levels 35+) Full evolved team of S/A-tier creatures. Squads tailored to specific challenges (boss mechanics, PvE dungeon tiers). Farm efficiently with a dedicated workforce. Prioritize trait inheritance through breeding for next-tier power.

Squad Tactics

Type Advantage Chains Lead with a type that beats the enemy’s frontline. Position a second-type attacker to chain follow-up advantage. Example: Enemy leads with Fire? Use Water in frontline to weaken, then deploy Electric in midline for followup.

Rotation Strategy Rotate creatures between battles based on health. Top-tier creatures can solo low-difficulty content; save your full squad for challenges. Injured creatures are safer in the backline or benched entirely.

Support Multiplication One healer can carry three high-damage creatures through most content. If a creature provides buffs (ATK/DEF boost) or crowd control (stun, paralysis), prioritize placing it where it affects the most creatures.

Matchup Decision-Making Before a battle, assess: “Does this enemy have a type advantage over my frontline? Do I have enough sustain?” Swap creatures accordingly. Don’t force a water-weak defender into a fire-heavy zone.

Tier Viability by Squad Role

S-Tier Creatures: Optimal for all squad types. Priority for your first evolved team.

A-Tier Creatures: Strong role specialists. Use to fill critical gaps (healer, tank).

B-Tier Creatures: Solid mid-game creatures. Keep until you find A-tier upgrades in their role.

C-Tier Creatures: Niche specialists; context-dependent (good against specific enemies, weak overall). Fine early-game; replace by mid-game.

D-Tier Creatures: Trap creatures designed to be evolved/replaced. Avoid early investment; use only if you have no alternatives.

Job Specialization Integration

Your best combat creatures might not be your best workers. Example strategy:

  • Combat Squad: Top-tier creatures on your six-slot battle team
  • Worker Squad: High job-level creatures (mining, logging, harvesting) on separate assignments

This way, you’re generating passive income while keeping your combat squad fresh and powerful. Rotate creatures to balance both roles.
